NFU Mutual - flippin' brilliant!!!

They say that you can only tell how good your car insurance company is when you need to make a claim - well NFU have been marvellous! :T

Earlier this week I had a little shunt in my car on my way to work and ended up with a dented bonnet and shattered headlight (light bulb intact but glass shattered). The car was still perfectly driveable so after the usual exchange of details with the other driver I carried on my way to work and phoned NFU from there to make a claim. The lady on the other end was very efficient and completed the claim form with me over the phone. Once she heard that the headlamp was broken she advised me that the car was illegal to drive (I did not know that) and should be off the road until fixed. She then set about finding a body shop near to me @ home (27 miles from the office) or @ the office who could come out to the office that day with a courtesy car (oh the joys of being fully comp!!); having scouted around she finally found one and my car had been duly swapped over for the courtesy car within 2 hours of my first call.

I've yet find out the resuly of the insurance assessment, and I wait in some trepidation since the car is 7 years old and just might be declared a write-off (according to my ever-cheerful OH  ), but so far, so painless - apart from the embarrassment of having hit someone else and this being my first RTA in nearly 30 years of driving............:embarasse

It all sounds good but I think a lot of insurance companies operate like this now. We had the same experience and level of service with More Than after my wife, bless her, reversed off our drive way and straight into a parked car.
  • I'm an NFU convert, too - we'd only just changed to them, and three weeks later I had an accident which caused £3.5k worth of damage - sod's law, really, I've only ever made one other claim in 24 years of driving, honest! NFU were brilliant - human customer services, friendly and understanding (NOT something I've found with every insurer, contrary to Red's experiences). Everything was dealt with efficiently, all steps along the way were followed up by a call from them to check how things were going. The most difficult part of the whole proceeding was ringing my husband and telling him I'd had a prang.
