Hi
Haven't been abroad for 7 years but am going to Lapland on 10 December for 3 days.
I need some serious help with the money we take. I'm taking £400. What's the best way. Can I just add I have a Barclaycard with 12 months interest free, if that helps.
I was personally thinking of exchanging £100 into Euro's and taking £300 worth of Sterling Travellers cheques. For any other excursions I was going to use the credit card.
I'm travelling with my wife and 2 young girls.
Can you advise if this sounds a good plan and the best place to exchange for Travellers cheques & Euros.

But keep some GBP in your wallet in case of emergency.0 -
Forget the travellers cheques, they're more trouble than they're worth.
Take 1/2 cash, then use your cards as above.
Check with your bank before you go what they charge most for. My banks charges for cash withdrawls but not if you use your debit card.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
After spending hours wandering round various European cities in the summer trying to cash travellers cheques and then being charged £5 when we did find somewhere - i would say dont bother with them.
Have a lovely time in Lapland and I hope you see :xmassmile :T

Thanks very much for your help, travellers cheques are out then. I'll take £200 worth of euros and my credit card.
Where is the best place to get my euros?
Do I use my debit card for the euros?0 -
For using ATMs abroad, I'd recommend opening a Nationwide account, they don't make a charge for using other banks machines abroad.
I opened one which I only use for when I travel in Europe. The £2 or so that other banks charge would soon add up...Retired in 2015.
Moved to Ireland September 20170 -
Was hoping to avoid ATM's, will I be better to take more Euros with me?0
