Rates are still quite high for this date to account for Christmas shoppers and work's parties. The absolute lowest rate I can find is for the Central House Hotel in Belgravia. It's going for £49 on Londontown.com. A fair walk but it is walkable. Just get on the embankment at Charing Cross and walk down to the Tate.

The Thistle Bloomsbury Park is an easy walk from Covent Garden and available for £89 on Londontown, but possibly your best options in the area are the Imperial Hotels in Bloomsbury. All of them are a very easy walk from Theatreland and are far better on the inside than they look on the outside.

Or if you want something a little nicer, try this for £145.

The Park Plaza Riverbank is £139

Or really push the boat out and go for one of my personal favourites, The Royal Horseguards for £176 including breakfast and tax.

When you think that you can pay £110 for a Travelodge and £140 for a Premier Inn, these rates aren't too bad by comparison.0
