It gets worse

I owe money to barclaycard and in arrears, they have gone into my barclays current account and emptied it, it had my br fees in for in two weeks. Spent two hours arguing to get it back.

That's incredibly bad luck. Poor, poor you. If you get it back, or manage to scrabble together the same amount by some other means, please open an account somewhere else so it's safe. Co-Op? Or somewhere else as an interim?
  • Any chance you could use your barclaycard to pay the BR fees? That'd show them!

Seriously, though, that's a nasty thing to happen, and they shouldn't be allowed to do it. My OH cancelled the DD from his Halifax bank acc that paid his Halifax CC, and Halifax set up a standing order to pay it and claimed he'd set it up himself!!! Actually sent a letter thanking him for setting it up! All they achieved was moving the debt from the CC to the bank O/D, which all went into the BR anyway, so they gained nothing:D.

Argue it all you can, nida - they shouldn't be allowed to just empty your account. What about priority bills and food???

    Good luck! CBx

Hi Nida was the money from wages or benefits? If you can argue that they took benefits money, then they should return it. Did they give you it back or are they holding onto it?

negotiate with them, if they won't give it all back, agree to allow them a payment of a token nature from it for the return of the monies. You might not get it all back but hopefully most of it.

Please let us know how you get on. Hope you can get it all back. Sorry to hear about this.

Can you beg them for a temporary overdraft or an extension of an existing overdraft?
  • its in the fine print, they have the right
  • Sadly a lot of banks have this in their terms now that if you owe them they can assess your current account and take it
