'We have a text for you, ring this No. '

Has anyone any idea if this is a con. Got a call on the landline today in which the automated voice was already clacking by the time the phone got to my ear, saying I have a text message for you from ..........mobile No. To hear the message ring ...........mobile No.
I didnt recognize either of the phone numbers and have done nothing, because Im afraid it will be a tel no in Outer Mongolia costing me £10 a min or something, but Im also nervous incase Im missing a genuine message from someone who really needs to leave me one, whose No. I have failed to recognize.
Anyone know of any scams like this at the moment?

  • Sounds like the sort of thing a debt colelction agency would do... I had loads of letters a year or so ago when I had a bad patch... the letters said "we have a message for you, phone XXXXX" -on googling the phone number, discovered it was from a debt collector.

So I advise typing both numbers into google and seeing what comes up - try it various ways with/without spaces after the area code and halfway through the main number to give best chances of finding the number.
In the probably unlikely event that I actually post something of use to someone, an ickle vote of thanks would be much appreciated, in fact I might frame it and put it up on the wall next to my cycling proficiency certificate :D

  • ah, well google usually knows the answers to everything! I always google dodgy numbers... rarely does it not turn up the answer!
