They've got to tank in price soon.
ive had a quick glance on ebay and pistonhead, fairly decent prices considering.
a lot seem to be cat c or d, obvious reasons i suppose. thats why i prefered the lotus,it was a wee bit away from the mainstream.
i will keep an eye on them and possibly change my mind several times before i decide on what i want next. last week it was an audi S2, the week before it was a 7 series, who knows whats next?...work permit granted!0 -
All this was said about the first Elan and look at the prices now! If you can find a mint, one owner, low mileage Elise, buy it. Its just as important to examine the owner as the car.0

The k series is a great engine just needs a little care when changing head gasgets which most places don't do which means they fail again and again and agaain etc.
s1 elsie is a great car and prices are quite cheap0 -
Guess what I think you should consider?
MX-5 Very, very reliable, cheep to service. Practical (for a 2 seater) we went camping for 2 weeks with ours (using a boot rack). Don't rule out the imports either (in fact most are better than uk cars, higher specs and some have more power than the uk model). Auto trader have them from £650 to £20K.
Its a british sports car made in japan!0 -

the mx5 has always been a car ive admired, unfortunatly the girlfriend doesnt share the same entusiasm as i do,as much as ive tried to convince her....work permit granted!0 -
Strange, it's normally the boys that have to be convinced that its not a "girly" car. All I say is get her to drive one.0

a few of my mates say its a girls car but,non of them have had a go in one, thier opinion doesnt realyy bother me much,i know i could convince them when they get in it.
the girlfriend has her heart set on a TT....work permit granted!0 -
The Cat C and D write-offs are almost always because the clamshells get damaged which cost a fortune to replace, Elises suffer from this just as much as VX220s I believe.
Edited to add that in case you didn't know, the "clamshell" is the name for the one piece GRP bodywork. My Excel Mortgage Calculator Spreadsheet: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=11571730 -
