If you don't want to move, untidy the house instead of tidying it - maybe the prospective buyers will be put off!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

They'll probably be put off my the ivy and trees growing through the porch, the stained carpets, the manky kitchen, the crumbling out house, the 40ft lleylandi, the manky bathroom, condensation blown double glazing etc
I think I'm just embarrassed that people will know I live there!!0 -

I found a place to rent that accepted my dog without a problem
I just offered a larger deposit. The only thing worse than smug married couple; lots of smug married couples.0 -

Good idea. Then the LL will serve notice so that the house can be tidy and
empty. Vacant possession is a good thing.

Was it just the dog or were you allowed too?

The LL has no legal duty to notify you the place is for sale.
Having said that, I think it's pretty bad manners....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I'd just refuse. I had an estate agent on my doorstep with 4 people wanting to view the day after I moved in on a 6 month tenancy. I had been told it the landlord was looking for a long term tenant and like you, that there would be no problem renewing after the first 6 months.
At the end of the day it may be his house, but you're paying him good money for it to be your HOME.
Lets face it, if you're really nice and allow viewings then all you're doing for yourself is notching up your chances of getting a Notice to Quit. If you aren't 'nice' then again, you're notching up your chances also. There's absolutely nothing in it for you mate.
Enjoy your time there as long as it lasts, and enjoy it completely selfishly without all the hassles of allowing viewings. There's no advantage to you whatsoever to do them and nothing legally they can do to make you. The 'buy to let' thing is more than likely a line they're spinning to give you an incentive and dangle a carrot for you. I was spun it a few times myself by an estate agent desperate to show viewers round ( although he did turn up a few times unannounced ).
My landlord gave up eventually trying to sell in this climate. I admit I may have helped there as the estate agent must've had to keep explaining to people that viewings weren't possible at this time. But I was determined that for the time I DID have there, then I didn't want the hassle and inconvienence.
My landlord CHOSE to rent the house to me. I'm paying my rent and am entitled to some peace. He can market it and have all the viewings he wants after I'm gone.
To summarise..Viewings would only have racked up my chances of getting turfed out, as would not allowing them. A no win situation for myself as a tenant, so I chose to take the lesser of two evils. ie no viewings and all the hassles that go with them.
Good luck !!!
ps Despite my being resigned to leaving this month, my landlord has just signed a years lease. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up !
But why should I give up when it all seems so stupid ?

That's a good outcome for you then, as long as your LL can afford the mortgage. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Have you the money & finance in place to be able to buy a place & be in it by February?
Or do you want to keep a roof over your head?
The choice is yours."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
