Unfourtunately my car was stolen a couple of days ago and the insurance company (asda insurance) are due to call me tomorrow to go through the claims process. I've never had to make a claim before especially not for a stolen car and was wondering if any of you kind people cold offer me any advice as to how to go about things because i've heard all mannor of horror stories about firms doing all they can to wriggle out of paying out and even when they do they give you no where near the value of what your car was worth.
Here is a full account of what happened.........
Parked and locked my car a short walk away from the train station and then got on a train to go to work. When i got to work about 2 and a half hours later i realised i was missing my keys. I thought i'd lost them on the train or maybe even on the walk from my car to the station or possibly pickpocketed. I got a friend to go check on my car who found that the car was now not where i had parked it. Thats about the jist of what happened.
My car is a Hyundai Getz 1.1 GSI SE registered in June 2006
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would expect lots of questions about the "pickpocket" and suggestions you left it unlocked/keys in it0 -
Thanks, but although that was not the case surely they can't hold out on that presumption can they?0
-
They will find the "coincidence" difficult to accept!0

Was anything else stolen
If not it means someone deliberatly pickpocketed you for car keys
If I was a criminal doing that I would choose someone with a better car
Have to admit Im cynical about your story, sounds far more likely the keys were left in it/nearby0 -
Lol, no i definetly locked the car i was just going through all the other possibilities that could have happened, although i would agree that the pickpocketing is not likely. I can only assume that i must have dropped the keys somewhere between the car and the train station.
As for about the "case" i was referring to the fact that about the leaving the keys in it or the car unlocked which i know was not the case.
I appreciate the probing questions you guys are fireing at me as it helps me know what to expect tomorrow.0 -
Here's another one then.
You say you "know" you locked your car. How are you so certain?0 -
I just simply remember locking the car door, putting the keys in my coat pocket and then walking towards the station.0
-
Fair enough.
Sounds to me you have a valid claim. If you know you locked your car and then put the keys in your pocket, as millions do every day, the insurance company have no grounds to suggest you were negligent.0 -
With all due respect, a Hyundai Getz is not the sort of car targeted by thieves. My guess is that the keys were left in the car and some chancer got lucky. It will probably turn up in a supermarket car park after a few days.0
