Ive bought my Grampa a mug from Past Times with a little line on it that could of been made just for him :)
    it says
head gardeners dont grow old they go to seed
    or something like that :)
    hes always slurping a cuppa
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
  • A friend's father was a keen golfer but can't get onto the course much these days so they bought him a framed print of a famous course. http://www.golfartdirect.com was the site they found them on and the print isn't that 'golfy' that non golfers won't like it!
  • I have brought my nan one of the "tea for one" sets. It looks like a big teapot but it is a teapot ideal for 1 / 2 cups tea which sits on the cup with a saucer underneath. Ideal for their afternoon tea and looks really nice too.

You can buy them from whittards, Laura Ashley and i am sure lots of other retailers too

Can you fabulous bunch of people help me too?

OH Grandma likes: alcoholic chocs, port + cheese, crabtree & evelyn gardeners range (handcream etc), posh English tea, posh biscuits/shortbread etc. She is 88, lives on her own, pretty well off and is really nice old lady (unlike my own Grandma, but thats another story).

However i gave a her a 'foody' hamper last year with Port & cheese and some other bits, and I am quite shocked at how much that Crabtree + Evelyn stuff costs.
    MY Budget is £20.
    Any ideas folks? Please :)

  • Same here, I am looking for ideas aswell! Gran is in her 70s and she is failing a bit so my sister has got her a one touch jar opener and a couple of jars of bits she will use. Will come in handy and she will be able to stop having to ask mum to open the next jar for her before she is finished the first one.

My prezzies are going tomorrow so I need to get something today and options are fairly limited in this small town so anything you can suggest that I can get at short notice would be fab!

  • Gifts that have gone down really well with my grandparents over the last few years were:

Backscratcher and shoe horn (cant reach anymore)
    Tens machine (bad back)
Different kinds of heat bag/ hot water bottle/wheat bag/ hand warmers etc.
Pillow with a speaker in it (amazon - nanna has tinnitus)
Relaxing sounds CD and colour change lamp.
Money behind the local bar (grandad!)
    Spectacle repair kit
    Book light
    V pillow (bad back support)
    Massage cushion
Lap top tray (the kind with beans in, would be a really good hamper base)
    Newspaper from day of birth
Aerial photo jigsaw of their house
Coasters with the grandkids on (me and my brother aged 23 and 26 lol)
boxes to put bits and bobs in.
Retro sweety hamper with - oldies sweets from the jar in instead. (fishermans friend type)
A brooch from past times for nanna - she kept in the box because it was 'too nice to wear' but she still loved it bless her.

also the classic slippers and a dressing gown - sounds boring but they never buy them for themselves.

Thats all i can think of for now!

    Hope that helps someone

  • My granny is 83. Last year as part of her Christmas I got her a book from Past Times. It was called something like 'Remembering the 40's'. My granny is always going on about how good the war years were??? This book was fab as it had old adverts, foods, pictures of ration books etc. She spent ages looking through it and it was lovely to share the memories.

I got my gran for chirstmas a CD called we'll meet again - memories of the war, various artists from play.com for £7.99 it has lots of well loved songs from WWII so she'll love it. I'm just going to get her some posh hankies to go with it.

Fingerscrossed - your granny sounds just the sort for a Journal in a Jar...somewhere she could put all these thoughts and memories down so they never get lost or forgotten.
