  • My hamsters ate just about anything fresh! Yes just like the guinea pigs do (just in smaller amounts though! and my hamster didn't eat grass:)
If you can get them clean, non pesticised dandelion leaves they are gobbled up too.
I don't thing there is anything sensible you'd consider feeding them that is harmful to hamsters IYKWIM.

    It's only a game

Pretty much anything fresh and healthy is good for hamsters. Only give little bits though, not enough for them to hoard (especially in summer). My hamster would eat anything except banana. Favourites were carrot, apple, grapes, chicken, the occasional cornflake, cucumber and green beans.

Mine have eaten everything going including Popadom once or twice!

More sensibly, not yet met a hamster that didn't love baby sweetcorn - but pretty much any fruit or veg that you'll have - main things to avoid are garlic/onion based products. Ours have also had bits of chicken and prawn - I know some people give insects (from pet shop/fishing places).

Little bits and probably only one fresh thing a day.

I did also have a hamster filch a mince pie once out of the box and a tuc biscuit which was bigger than she was - she got the biscuit back to the cage but the mince pie was a tad too much!
  • Mine just has the harry hamster dried food which they love apart from the grass nuts.

Sometimes we give them corn on the cob, scrabbled egg, fish, avocardo all in tiny amounts.

Do not give then lettuce though this will give them wet tail.

Be careful with anything too squishy that may end up impacted in their pouches.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

My hamsters were greedy little so and so's, they loved kebab! If anyone walked into the house with one, they'd be straight out of their house and mooching at the bars. We gave them things like grapes/nuts/plain biscuits like digestives Anything really! Wish I could get a hamster again, OH won't let me because of the noise they make.....and it's probably not a good idea with an evil cat going around either!

  • Mine like dry pasta :D

Favourite fresh things include beansprouts, carrot, cucumber, chicken, pork, beef, prawns, mackrel, mushrooms, sweetcorn, egg, celery, occasional small ammounts of cheese.

I once had a hammy get at my advent calendar, one of the kind you stuff yourself, she'd chewed through the pocket for the 25th, used the felt in her bed, and eaten a large part of a terrys chocolate orange slice and some of the foil it was wrapped in.

She passed the foil with no problems and went on to live another year ^_^ taught me to keep stuff away from her cage too.
