Hello Saxy1.
Martin was on GMTV this morning and recommend the 'AVG' anti virus software, I have been using it for years and always protected me, very easy to download updates too. (It has a system implemented into it what does it automagicily!)
There is a paid version of the software but I could 100% recommend using the free, does the trick!

Let me know how you get on.0 -
Avast , before you install remove all of norton of your laptop using :j http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/20050331081620390

I would vote for Avast.
But there are literally hundreds of threads covering this topic if you do a little search!

I got the full AVG 8.0 Internet Security package (the full top lot) for £8 as I signed up through Trial Pay and opted to get 250 business cards FREE from Vistaprint and only paid the p+p.0

if you want to pay, get either eset or kaspersky.
as for free ones, i use avira myself and its pretty good (apart from the popup when it updates - easily blocked by googling it or blocking it in your firewall)0 -
riverstreams.co.uk have 3 user KASPERSKY for £22 inc vat & p&p
or may still be in PC WORLD for £25
Either way it is an extremely good Internet Security,ok its not
free but it is better than Norton or Mc Affee
Used it 3 years running without any issues at allnever put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow0 -
Thanks for all your replies, have downloaded Avast and so far so good!!!!0

I would also recommend
SPYBOT
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html
UPDATE and IMMUNISE (Prevents nasties from getting onto your drive) and scan monthly
And MALWAREBYTES
http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&!!!!!button
UPDATE and QUICK SCAN monthly
Neither use any resources as they dont run until you tell them to (Both are SCANNERS, spybot just updates a 'block list'):idea:0 -

He needs to be informed of how dire it is. It misses out essential areas completely in the free scanning.0
