Yorkshire Internet Saver

Options
Hi

Could anyone who has an Internet Account with Yorkshire Building Society assist me with my account? I am a new Customer having deposited £1 by cheque payment, which shows up in my Y.B.S account.

First I am able to log on, no problem. when I want to transfer money from my Bank Account I use the Y.B.S option to do so, and am confronted with a Credit Card option to do this. I dont have a Credit Card and would never use this method anyway.

I have given the Y.B.S my Bank details, but this method of transfering money from my nominated account is nowhere to be seen.

The information in the welcoming letter states " For transfers to your account, please log-in and use your Debit Card, or for a Bank Transfer use the following details, Nat West Sort code number xxxxxxx Account Number xxxxxx"

What on earth is a debit card? and why do Nat West take the deposits? I have a Switch Card issued by H.S.B.C and that is all.

I have had Internet Accounts with I.N.G, H.S.B.C, Icesave and Halifax, which were so easy to use, I have never encountered anything like this, it is so bad that I am unable to follow their dummy run example.

Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me.

You can deposit only by debit card (your Switch card is a debit card) or by BACS transfer initiated from an account held elsewhere. The latter uses the NatWest collection account sort code, 8-digit account number (the 1st 8 digits of your 10-digit YBS account number), and your 10-digit account number as the 'reference'.

Your other savings accounts may have operated via direct debit, which allows you to initiate a 'pull' from the savings account. YBS doesn't operate like that.

Not sure why/where you're seeing a credit card option though?

Natwest presumably provide the internet banking/deposit taking backend for YBS. I have an HSBC account with a Debit Card, presumably your current account only offered a Switch Card option?

If you are registered for HSBC online banking, the details given above "for a Bank Transfer use the following details, Nat West Sort code number xxxxxxx Account Number xxxxxx" would indicate to me that you can pay into the account from your HSBC account, using these details - payments from my HSBC account to my savings accounts (not with YBS) have typically been received by the Faster Payments process, within two hours of initiating them from HSBC's online banking.

Make sure when you log in that it's the saving account, not the credit card. It's easy to do.
