Barclaycard Help Please

in Credit cards
I took out a Platinum Barclaycard in June to do a 0% ballance transfer untill Sept '09.
They were also offering a 3 month 0% promotional spend on which I purchased goods to the value of £2350.
In September, I made a payment of £2350 thinking it would pay off my spend ballance, but no, what they have done is deduct that amount from my ballance transfer.
Which now means that my 0% ballance transfer is almost useless, about £400 left to pay, meanwhile I am now paying interest on the spend ballance.
On phoning their call centre, I was informed that this was correct and I should have been informed of this when I activated the card, I do not recall this, as the person I was speaking to was more interested in trying to talk me into insurance etc.
It has now been passed to their formal complaints dept. and I await the outcome.
I would be most gratefull if anyone has any help, advice or similar experience to offer.

Yep its in terms and condition which you agreed to when you applied for the card. It would be a logic presumption to assume that any payment would go to purchases first however this just highlights the importance of reading the terms and conditions (sorry to sound harsh, I rarely read them myself but in a nutshell I doubt your complaint will be upheld, unfortunately it looks like you'll have to write this off as a 'live and learn' exercise)
In the forums it is well known that all cards that offer balance transfer work like this, except for Nationwide which is a little unique.0 -

Sorry to sound harsh, but why would you think that?
Most credit card companies use your payments to pay off debts at the lowest interest first, as is the case here. There are a few notable exceptions (Nationwide for example) where they actually use your payments towards the highest interest debt first, but they are few and far between.
As was mentioned above, it's spelled out in the T&Cs. I can't see you getting anywhere with your complaint, unless Barclaycard are feeling very generous.0 -
