ATM warning

Hi, Please be aware of a situation in Glasgow at the moment, anyone from this area. ATM machines are being targeted by thieves especially Buchanan street and Argyle street. When you stand in a queue waiting for money they chalk your jacket to highlight the fact you have money on you in order to let others in their group know. As far as I know it is only Glasgow. Beware...shrewdal

Hasn't this gone on for hundreds of years? Ok maybe not ATMs but thieves marking someone with chalk they believe to be a good target is in fact where the term "Mark" for a thief/conman's target comes from.

I always try to go into a bank rather than use the outside ATMs. I also prefer cashback but someone could be watching you withdraw cash wherever you go.

Considering the technique is centuries old and used around the world I suspect the internal memo was nothing more than an urban myth email forward that was extrapolated into an "urgent major local problem" when it's nothing of the sort. Corporations are as susceptible to a lack of critical thinking as any individual unfortunately.
