After my first post I'm getting email Spam already

Less than 24 hours after making my first post I've received an email offering help in clearing large debts.
I signed up using an email account that has never received spam (more fool me), so how has this happened?
In my options I only allowed mods to send emails.
I am annoyed that this has happened as this is bound to be the first of many.

  • Hi Newgrass

So you know, we never use the email address you've registered on the forum with, for anything and never pass them on.

Can you tell us where the spam come from?

Have you used the same address to register on a site to get a freebie or something similar?

I can vouch for that, MSE in no way would pass your details on to anyone.

Do you mean a spam email sent to your actual email account or a spam PM on the forum?

Just wondered, since I think there have been a few spam PM's lately on the subject you mention sent to users of the Debt-Free Wannabe board.

If it's email then which service is the OP using? If it's something like gmail and hotmail then even brand new ones can suddenly get spam even if they are NEVER used.

Personally in all my time on here, my registered email address has never recieved a single spam email ever since I first registered it. So I very much doubt that MSE is the source of the spam. Using my own domain email addresses don't get spam whereas if I register with free webmail type addresses such as googlemail, they do seem to get spam so if that's the type of new email address you're talking about I'm willing to bet you'd have got spam anyway.

  • Nice of the OP to come back and answer the questions MSE Andrea had... obviously didn't want any help...
