Scart Issue

Hi, I recently purchased a stand alone dvd recorder and have connected it with my sky and t.v. I get thes black lines in the background and I dont know how to get rid of it. Has anyone experienced this before or have any idea of removing these background lines?

Nick.

Is there a test swtch on the back of DVD player...
  • I'm not sure what you mean by black lines. If it is a slowly moving ghost image of the SKy box output then it is caused by poorly shielded SCART cables. Try separating out the cables so they're not sitting on top of each other. If that is the cause then you may want to buy better cables. £10-12 should get you a good quality cable, there's no point in spending much more than that on them - no matter what home cinema enthusiasts will tell you...

I'm surprised QVC don't sell them , they would complement the ridiculous, overpriced Bose stereos they sell.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • There is certainly good reason in not buying the cheapest one in the shop. For a start, the cheap ones are generally not fully wired. It will only have the most commonly used connections wired up, and may not give you full functionality depending on what you want it to do.

You will probably notice a better picture from a £12 SCART than from a £3 one. But the difference between, say, a £12 one and a £70 one will, in your average domestic set up, be invisible. Except when viewing your bank statement.

A very quick guide to the quality is the thickness of the cable...

    Cheers for that guys.

I currently use the scart leads that come with devices but I'll try new scart leads.

Hmmm - who on earth would actually spend £70 on a cable? Seriously?

Probably the same people who would spend £185 on a Mains Cable
