Uninstall AVG and put on Avast! if you're a tightwad and don't want to spend money but want the feeling of security or ESET NOD32 if you want protection.0

A decent firewall
SUNBELT, COMODO and ZONEALARM are the top 3
MALWAREBYTES wouldnt go amiss either (hard drive scanner)

simply UPDATE and SCAN with it
Dont forget to IMMUNISE with spybot (Stops certain infections):idea:0 -
I personally have never had any trouble with my Windows Firewall running XP. It's free and already set up. Just tick the box to enable it.
But yes, you defo need a firewall.
Also, as a bove, run some sort of spyware/malware program every so often.0 -

Depoends what protection you want/need from your firewall. The Xp firewall is pretty basic and unless it changed in SP3 ( I don't use XP anymore) it doesn't filter outbound traffic. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Windows firewall doesnt stop programs (MALWARE/SPYWARE?) calling OUTWARDS
Id really suggest you also upgrade Traveller:idea:0 -
And there's no point in having third party firewalls that do because most users click allow anyway.
I actually partially agree with that Conor. Most users DO click allow no matter what it is.
All the same, id personally recommend they clean their system using a decent anti virus and malware scanner THEN use the firewall and allow everything for a few days.
Anything that pops up after that should start sending alarm bells ringning.......:idea:0 -
How resource hungry are 3rd party firewalls?
As I have never had any trouble, dont go to dodgy sites, is there any need in me updating mine?0 -
If some spyware DID get onto your computer (Quite possible, even on a heavily protected computer), it means they can send information OUTWARDS.
Now if I was writing one, id have it send passwords and bank details and things of that nature (Where possible).
Your call......:idea:0
