In a mess with A&L

Options
I am in an utter mess with my A&L account. I have got 2 current accounts with them one has got a £250 overdraft and the other has got £350. At the time I opened them I needed 2 accounts - 1 for the bills and 1 for spending money.

However I need to put in a minimum of £500 in each account per month but due to a mixture of things like maternity leave and OH being unemployed for a period of time I couldn't sustain this and dropped into my overdraft on both accounts. Now with their excessive charges I am now £106 over my overdraft limit on the spending account with another £110 due to go on in a few days!
They have sent me a letter yesterday the 19th saying I need to pay off my Overdraft by the 20th and because i didn't get home till evening it gave me zero time in which to pay this off, not that I have got the money spare anyway!

I am worried because my wages get paid into my other A&L account for all the bills and mortgage that they will either close both accounts and keep the money without paying any of the DD's or just take money from that account to pay off what I owe on my 2nd account!

I know its my own fault this started to spiral but all their charges don't help and I have written to them and explained my situation but I get no reply only a letter asking to ring them even though I have told them I haven't got a phone at the moment!

Has anyone of any advice?

How much is your overdraft on the savings account, and are they asking you to pay that one back too?

Someone more knowledgeable will be along in a minute but I didn't want to read and run. Are you getting any income at the moment - no SMP? It sounds like you should be getting tax credits too, do you claim them?

    DOn't worry, there's always a way out.

I am back at work now so just started getting a monthly wage again, our bills are really high and all my wages and the TC get eaten up by monthly bills leaving nothing spare, that is why i am so worried about A&L taking all my wages to pay off what I owe on my overdraft as it will leave me too short to pay the bills and I would have no way of catching up with them if i get behind.

Sounds like it might help you to post a SOA, perhaps on the debt-free wannabe board. You'll get lots of help there on ways to deal with budgeting so that you use the money in the best way possible.

Open another account with an unconnected Bank ASAP and get your wages redirected there. Then at least A&L can't take your wages to cover your overdraft. You then need to contact A&L and come to some arrangement over repayment of your two overdrawn accounts.
