morning peeps
have just in the last hour discovered part of my front wall has been knocked down.
is about 40' long and about 6 feet has come down. (double skinned is that right) oh and is 4'6" tall
have called it in and police on way, however what can they do? virtually nothing. SO
do i just fork out for fixing? is it gonna cost a fortune (leg and arm come to mind) or should it be done on insurance.
wall cost £1750 two years ago, but me not being a builder or any other useful trades person i have no clues. willl the whole wall have to come down or can they repair?
if i divide the original cost i get to around £260 but i am sure it will be more than that now. plus (lack of money to clear it up) still have left over bricks in front garden, should i suggest these be used? saves me hiring a skip later?
ta for any advice at all

Did a car hit it or something else?
Anyway if you know of anyone who has had some building work done recently ask whether they have contact details. I'm sure you could get a brickie to fix it as a little earner on the weekend and it wouldn't cost a huge amount. If the bricks are all still there then a lot can probably be re-used (if they are in one piece!). you might even find brickies advertising in the local free rag although obviously you would be taking a chance on how good/reliable they were.0 -
cheers latecomer
yep all the bricks are still there. mostly in one peice, however plenty of spares still in garden.
yep a car hit it. found a bit of car light plastic, plus big white line across remains of wall.
there are some renovations going on a street away, i might ask around if any of the brickies want the job. thanks for idea63 mortgage payments to go.

Maybe you'll be in luck and they'll find out who did it. Unlikely perhaps but you never know.
Remember that cash is king, particularly for little jobs like this. Always worth mentioning for the right price.0 -
my DD low brick wall was knocked down a while ago by a car driver.
lucky he stopped and it went through his insurance. the insurance company used their own team to repair it. i believe it cost them about 1500 quid.
keep all the bricks etc.. itll make the repair easier and maybe even nicer if they cannot match the bricks up.Get some gorm.0 -
I would think the police should give you a crime reference number that the insurance company may request. I'd knock on your neighbour's doors and ask if they saw anything. I would then phone your insurance company and discuss it with them to see where you stand and what excess you would have to pay if you are covered....you don't necessarily have to submit a claim.

andrew yes i got the crime number at 7.30 this morning, and not yet called insurance so will see what they say. was going to tell them anyway just maybe not claim for it. just needed to know if whole wall had to be rebuilt, (it doesnt)
ormus thanks for info, the wall has fallen inwards so was just planning to leave it there as it is no danger.looked yesterday and morst of the bricks are intact, at least i can thank the car driver for not mashing it up more :rotfl:
latecomer yes was hoping cash would be acceptable to someone. and i dont hold any hopes of them being found, but ya just never can tell.63 mortgage payments to go.
