Can anyone top this?
I was charged £62:00 from a well known car dealers for 2 window wipers to be supplied and fitted.
Can this rip off be beaten?

Hi all,
Gail,
Make? model? Date of first registration? From what distance did they see you coming?
If you supply the above I'll price up the wipers.
In return, if they are quite cheap, you must complain like crazy

Hi, Leo
The cars a V Reg Renault Scenic 1999.
I suggested to the mechanic where he could stick the wipers ;D
I was advised I woudnt be able to get wipers to fit car but I drove 2 miles down the road and bought them for 8:99. ( plus the nice gut in the shop fitted then for me)
I have since had 6 calls fron customer services trying to keep my custom
Last call from them today but i would have to be nuts to go back there. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Just as a matter of interest Gail, do you have a male partner or friend who could take the car back to the rip off merchants and ask the same question. I'm wondering if they would give a man the same quotation?
If he is quoted a cheaper price for fitting wipers to the same car, you can have some fun reporting your story on here, BBC Watchdog, your local papers etc.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the 'I wanna' and 'In my home' and Health & Beauty'' boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Various local shops (poundland?) sell wipers for £1 a pair-
usually fairly easy to fit- but you did say you had a RenaultAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Go on - tell us the name of the car dealer0

Just as well you only wanted wipers! :PNo reliance should be placed on the above.0

I had a quote from Ford to replace a wing mirror, just the mirror bit, the mirror itself was £15 they wanted to charge £30 to fit it, the price covered a replacement in case they broke it in the process, reassured by their confidence in their work I fitted it myself ;D
(this was many years ago before cars had wing mirrors that heat up & adjust without having to open your window and indicators on them and the ability to fold in when you turn your engine off)0 -
The rear quaterlight window was smashed on my car and I was quoted £120 and that it would take about an hour and a half. I bought a quarterlight from a vehicle dismantlers for £12 and my partner fitted it. It took him twelve minutes with no experience of car repairs at all!Torgwen..........

I reckon this is pretty bad.... related to a main dealer. In the last summer bought a loverly big Honda Aerodeck fab. for the motorway driving I do. After a few months a problem arose with the electrics so popped along for Honda to have a look and to take advantage of a free Winter check. To my complete shock they reset the electrics, fine but I needed two new gaitor boxes cost nearly 300.00. Bit funny I thought as the car had been serviced as part of buying it and also had a new MOT on purchase. So took the car to a local indpendent who said they were fine and should last for at least another three years. I had a similar problem with a previous Honda after some git smashed a headlight and drove off... 250.00 quid said the main dealer 70.00 said the second hand car man...fitted it as well. Beware main dealers they are expensive and in my opinion need to treated with caution.0

Payless- What's wrong with a Renault?
Nile I think I was ripped off because I am female, isn't it mostly feamles that get ripped off at garages or am I still slightly bitter?
Forgot to mention first time but I had to pay £40:00 for a front bulb supplied and fitted.
I was told it was legislation that this had to be working before I tok the car away. (i had 24 hours to replace the wipers)
Does anyone know if this is true or not?
Would love to name the Dealer but am new to MSE how close can I go ;DThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
