http://www.nvu.com/download.html This is a WYSIWYG Editor
http://www.w3schools.com/
Notepad is a HTML Editor.0 -
yeah context is also free and does highlighting.
to make a webpage in notepad you can just type:
<html>
<head>
<title>My Snazzy Webpage</title>
</head>
<BR>
<FONT SIZE="3" FACE = "COMIC SANS MS">
Your text!
</FONT>
</body>
</html>
then save it as something like index.html, then double click the file0 -
If you make a page in Notepad, consult the W3Schools HTML (or XHTML) tutorial to learn the basic coding concepts of HTML.
HTML Tutorial: http://www.w3schools.com/html/
XHTML Tutorial: http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/
Alternatively, if you get stuck, many web hosts offer a website designing tool as part of a web hosting package which shouldn't require an knowledge of HTML or XHTML as the tool builds the site for you based on what you tell it.0 -

With that then and a bit of software for web design and some webspace
https://www.freespaces.com and a ftp bit of kit http://www.smartftp.com/ and
some patience and a lot of trail and error you should be fine..
I do reccomend to go on a nightcourse to learn the how to' as
its really handy if a tutor can point you in the right direction when things
go a bit wrong as they invaribly do... Try yer local college.0 -
If you've got Open Office, go to File-New-html document. You then make a page and it produces very good code. Even if you do something like this, I think it is still good to follow the other ideas in this thread so you can 'read' html to sort problems. Good luck!0

Just an extra thought. If you are planning to create "interactive" websites, that is sites where they interact with databases, send emails etc. you will need to learn a server side scripting language like ASP or PHP. There are some decent books around that can help you achieve this, but the hosting for such sites is more expensive than hosting for a static site and there isn't usually anywhere you can get it free.0
