My Credit Card was Scammed on-line !!

Happened to me about 3 years ago - First I knew of it was my CC statement coming through the door, about £1100 was spent on my Visa at a computer company in Australia, thankfully it didn't cost me a penny though as I was still in possession of my card the bank paid (I just had to fill out a fraud declaration and post it off and heard nothing since).
Apparantly in my case the bank would have got the money from the retailer as the retailer shouldn't have allowed expensive computer equipment to have been delivered to a different address than that of the card holder.0 -
My Debit card was scammed in some way. I don't order on-line and the only people that have my details are the phone companies. I do use it for cash at ATM's but always check the front of machines and hide my pIN if anyone is around.
My bank Abbey phoned and said that someone had ordered goods over the phone and tried to get them delivered to another address. They picked it up as fraudulent and stopped it. Then informed me. Abbey were very quick off the mark and cancelled the card and sent another. They said I would have been covered if the transaction had gone through.
reminds me of when we went to America about 10 years ago and on our return got a credit card bill for £86,000 demanding immediate payment!!
TSB were awful about the whole thing sending threatening letters and not being helpful. Not returning calls etc etc. Not blocking the card when we advised them of the problem and seeming not trying to trace what had happened. Eventually I went to the banking ombudsman and they sorted it.
What happened was that we booked a flight while in Mexico back to San Francisco via American Express travel and the airline had put the company account on our card!!
Some shock to come home to.0 -
I think it is more likely that somebody has got hold of your number somehow then it being down to online fraud. Have you been out to eat recently and given your card to a waiter where the card has left your sight? My card was cloned in this way a few years ago.0

I haven't been to a restaurant or used my card where the Sales person would be able to note down the numbers. I did use it over the phone to an Insurance agent in November. My investigations have found that the Cloggs website had my address and card details set up by a Yahoo Email address and the mobile phone number was false. The company have emailed them to see If they have received their goods and the Email address hasn't bounced back so far, so I am hoping we might get somewhere with this.
Thanks to everyone who has given input to this0 -

My card hasn't been skimmed to my knowledge just used on the Internet, the details were my name address ,card number, expiry date and the number from the back (which is very puzzleling to me.) They then registered o-line to various companies using a false mobile number and an email address at Yahoo. Ive just tapped the email address into one of the companies web site and asked for the password it came back as known so it will obviously send the password to them.0 -

Ok was intrigued enough to read the detail now.
Something doesn't quite stack up here for this to be a "typical" CC fraud:
1. As you said, Why would they steal your card and have the goods delivered to your address. This would (and has) just alerted you to the "fraud". Anyone with any sense would not confirm the transaction if they couldn't change the address.
2. Libcol and Cloggs are the same company - maybe Schuh are really Scholl? , I don't know sounds all shoey to me.
3. They know the 3 digit number, which online systems should/would never store in any database (otherwise it's pointless)
4. Fraudsters don't generally steal shoes, they would generally target fast moving consumer goods and are not serial shoe purchasers.0 -
I was alerted by the order of the shoes arriving at my address but the other orders made have gone to an address to a college down South ( I live in the North East) they are are also shoes and two digital watches and clothes all been signed for. So I guess the first order was a mistake on the behalf of the Scammers and It was delivered to me not The College as they would have hoped.
I find the whole thing worrying but I have been informed I will not loose any money from this.0 -

I think Halifax's policies on online fraud are pretty good, it's why I switched to them from Natwest a few years ago.Saveit wrote:was alerted by the order of the shoes arriving at my address but the other orders made have gone to an address to a college down South ( I live in the North East) they are are also shoes and two digital watches and clothes all been signed for. As you have an address and someone has signed I presume either you or Halifax have informed the police?0 -
The Halifax knew of this on the 30th and my card was blocked but some of the orders had been despatched. I have informed the Halifax that I have found out from the suppliers the delivery address and they said they would investigate this. I was also told I need not inform the Police but I would feel happier If I did. What do you think?0
