I am computer idiot, but i've just been spooked on another website, its a financial website, and someone is able to see other IP info, he has made it known that he can do this, he also told a poster that he/she has left a printer port open.
I am spooked that he can access my PC and the information I have on it? I am worried he can get access to email and banking info etc?
whats going on and what can I do to prevent it?

Use a decent firewall
Zonealarm, Comodo or Sunbelt should do the trick
To be extra vigilant, a routers hardware firewall is a plus also:idea:0 -

YAWN..............
This one again? Guy runs a simple script that does a query and returns the IP address of the computer connecting and posts it on the website. Means absolutely nothing other than the script shows the IP addresses of inbound connections to whatever script the site or applet he put in his post detects.
This site does it if you visit it:
http://whatismyip.com/
Moron then makes a random statement that someone is likely to believe because they have a printer and have very little knowledge about IT.
It's like this:
If they're running an ADSL Modem Router or are on Virgin or NTL, there's no way in hell the guy can do that because the inbuilt NAT in those devices prevents inbound connections from the internet. The only way there's a remote chance is if they're connecting using a USB modem or the old 56k dialup.
Secondly: If they're running any version of Windows XP or later that's been updated in the last four years and therefore has at least Service Pack 1 on, there's no chance of it either as Windows Firewall is turned on by default with file and printer sharing disabled by default.
PM the poster he told that to and tell them to put up a reply saying that they're using an ADSL Modem Router running NAT so he's talking out of his backside.0
