    thanks everyone!

I like the idea of a board game, jr operation sounds fantastic! She might be a niece but i only have the 2 (and no kids of my own) so i do tend to spoil them by buying them clothes, I've already got them jammies, hat and scarf and i got the little one a bed for her dolly (a big girl bed not a cot lol). It's just the 5 year old and i recon she might like high school musical as she goes to dance lessons.

I have a 5 year old niece and she ADORES drawing/cutting/stickers etc, for xmas Ive made her a bumper art pack of coloured paper, foil, stickers, scissors etc. :j She also loves Lazytown and Strawberry Shortcake  a horrible prog lol I hate it. She also LOVES stuff from Lush (esp Rock Star soap) and loves getting the kids bath bombs from there!
  • The Bratz dolls aren't really like baby dolls, more like barbie dolls (They are vile in my opinion, I am glad I have a boy! :rotfl:)

I love playmobil for children aged 3-10, it really is brilliant, I used to love mine. I played with it until I was about 14!! There are loads of different sets from princesses & fairies to knights to modern city life including a hospital with maternity ward and an airport with security scanner! The level of detail is great, kids love that stuff.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

My 4(5 in March) DD loves play doh too, although was slightly disappointed to find all hers had gone bad this week... .

Does wrapping it in damp kitchen roll over night still revive it or has that long gone?

Asda had some PlayDoh face sets on half price for £5 but not sure if thats reasonable or not
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
  • My DD also loves Lush, can I just say that if you were thinking of Bratz or HSM for her check with Mum first, I would be horrified if someone bought her Bratz.

I know i'm going to have to get over it but I think that bratz are nasty and too old for her so until she desparately wants them herself then I don't want her to have anything bratz.

This year I have gained 6 nieces and my partners 2 little girls to buy for, aged between 10 and 3!
One niece is just 5 and she'll be getting a selection of books and i'm going to investigate Disney Princess too.

  • Hi,

Just a quick thought as the games seem to be doing well... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Re-Creation-Group-Plc-16518/dp/B00008MIGQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys&qid=1227174756&sr=8-4 our 7(8 on monday) dd, 6 year old ds and 4 year old (birthday yesterday!) dd love the above game! They received it for Christmas last year, and it has been pulled out may times after school as it is something they can all play together.

Not quite sure how big her little sister is but dd2 has been able to join in since she had just turned 3.

If it weren't for her having a younger sister my other suggestion would have been hama beads :D Might be useful for someone else though...
  • I've had two 5 year old girls, now 7 & 8. I'd say Littlest Pet Shop, Jungle in my Pocket, Polly Pocket, Animal Hospital, Syllvanians & Playmobil. We have all of this lovely stuff.

I wouldn't opt for HSM or Hannah Montana unless you know she liked them. And games can be very hit or miss. The only ones I'd recommend would be Headbandz or Downfall. Headbandz is a great game for the family; such fun! Even Operation, which they were both thrilled to receive after requesting it, got one look in (too hard.)

My personal recommendations, from experience would be:
    * A whiteboard with rubber and pen set (by far the most used and love 'toy' we have)
    * A Waterstones gift card (choosing your own books massively beats unwrapping them)
    * A contemporary colouring book such as this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-Doodles-Piers-Harper/dp/1906082308/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227179707&sr=8-1

We'd had a few variations on these and they are brilliant. Loved by our very artistic and less creative daughters. And a bit different to the branded toys listed above.
