Alternatives to Sky+

Can anyone recommend an alternative to Sky+ for recording digital TV? I'm looking for some hardware which doesn't tie me into a contract.

Freeview+ is being advertised at the moment so a launch is imminent. Supposed to be a rival to Sky+. See here

I use this pvr to give me digital tv (freeview) and record what I wish onto the hard drive - and it costs a pittance. £40 including delivery !!!

While I was at it I bought this DAB radio/cd player and I'm totally impressed with that as well.

    Thanks for all the info.

I live in a rented house and currently just use the Sky box and satellite dish here to watch the free digi channels (I don't pay for a Sky package). With the freeview boxes mentioned can I recieve the signal through my existing satellite dish or will I need to use an aeriel?

Just that I live in an area with really bad TV reception and so most of us use satellite dishes.

You don't have to wait for Freeview+
Our Humax does store programmes, record an entire series and pause live TV.
If the programme set to record is delayed or even swaps from BBC1 to BBC2 the recording still works - it's amazing.

The timings on some more obscure channels are sometimes incorrect so you can lose a minute or so one end or the other - but this is rare.

    Go for it!

Already bought a Humax as I was growing a long beard waiting for Freeview+ on Satellite. When the Sat version FINALLY appears it had better have Hi Def as the wait means that HD is now that much closer to an everyday thing.
