What an exhausting day! thought I would post my experience up here today and to say thank you to you all for helping me prepare!
Got to the court house 9.30 the window opened up at 9.45 am. I was feeling OK apprehensive but OK. Waiting room had 3 windows one dealing with BK, one dealing with baliffs and another one dealing with housing things. There was a man at the baliff window talking to the woman (who my heart went out too) apart from that it was just me and hubby. When the window opened he asked us if we were here to petition, and my name. Sat at the window, he asked for the forms, he spent about 10 minutes looking at them, and i was squirming a bit because he was looking at my statement. He was a bit of a grump to be honest, he didnt talk to me. Then gave him my fees. Then he said I had to go to the next floor and wait to see the judge. So up we went, I got all in a fluster because the security man wanted to metal detector me and I was all confused, ANYWAY! sat down and basically waited about hour and 45 mins, the waiting room was full of people and solicitors waiting to see the judge about home repossessions mostly (it wasnt exactly private you could hear them all discussing the cases). Thing that was getting to me a little bit was no one really told you much, like if someone would come and get me, whether my name would be called or anything. Waiting was hard and felt quiet depressing. Hubby bought me a brew and a twix and I cheered up a bit
then a young lad came out and said (rather too loudly for my nerves) my name and the judge wanted to see me about my bankruptcy. Thats when my heart was in my mouth. Went into this office that looked more like an academics office and a middle aged man, well spoken, well dressed and matter a fact was sat at his desk. I hadnt even sat down before he started talking, and just as I sat down I was getting up again. He basically wanted to clarfiy something on my form - I had crossed out the wrong line on the front (oops)
then he wrote something signed, dated and put the time on the form, and told me to go back downstairs where I would be told what happened next. So still no clearer whether I was actually bankrupt.. I was really on edge and feeling like it was all a bit surreal to be honest. Back to the same window I started, same grumpy man came out, took my forms and sat me in front of the telephone, in this office where people were just working. it was all a bit odd. He then told the judge had declared me bankrupt and that he was ringing the OR and that then he would pass the phone over to me. Thanks to you guys on here, i guessed that what was happening, but I tell you if I hadnt been on this site, I wouldnt have known what was happening at all!!! Anyway, I didnt really speak to an OR it was a young girl who was the OR's admin person. She asked me a lot of things that was on the form, like about the house how much it was worth, the car etc - i just read off the forms. She said she would contact Lloyds to say they had no interest in the account. Then that was it. Put the phone down then kinda sat there not knowing whether I could go and then this random woman from the other side of the room said ok bye and let me out, so i went. wasnt till driving home i realised i hadnt even been given a BK number . So i am not sure how i feel about it tonight. I didnt feel a mass of relief, I think I am just tired. I mean, for anyone in knots about going to court, like people have said before me, dont be scared, really its not scary, it was just a bizzare day! I honestly do not think I would have had to see the judge if I hadnt of made that mistake, the court seemed busy and the staff all seemed busy and quiet stressed. The OR (well his admin assistant) said I would get a letter in around 2 weeks but dont worry if I didnt hear anything for a while. I asked her if i could have a contact number incase I got stuck and she gave me hers (i am glad i asked, as i dont think she was going to give me anything!). I feel very un-emotional about it.... but one thing i have been saying all day is that i wouldnt have been able to do this without all your advice, and i really really really appreciate everyone taking the time to answer my worries and even cheer me up! your all top! :A x

Thanks for going into detail, it really helps to know what to expect. I guess basically when it happens, you get told go here and go there and asked questions without being given any information back! But it's worth it to be debt free and without stress. Congratulations! :jBSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Glad that's bit's over for you Louise (((((((((())))))))
Did they not give you a copy of your Bankruptcy Order? You'll need it to give any creditors who call your BR number and OR contact details.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Well done Louise! You got through it - although it's a shame the people at the court weren't more helpful. It's not always like that - ours were really nice and told us everything that was going to happen, so I guess it's just pot luck with which court it is and how busy they are.
They really should have given you your BR order though! You need a copy of it, although you'll also get a copy from the OR when they send you their stuff to fill in (yes, more forms I'm afraid!!)
Take care, CBx;)0 -
copy your BO as many times as you have red warning letters from different companies (mine was 33 - original lenders, creditors and DCA's) and send em all one
inside a week you will hear no more from any of them.
check the insolvency website and if needs be print that off (just in case)

Glad to hear you made it through the day unscathed! I went BR 15 days ago, and it still hasn't sunk in. The sooner you get your BR number, the sooner you can give it to your creditors when they ring, and tell them to bog off. Now that feels good0
