Hello all
I'm hoping someone can give me a little advice.
I recently had replacement uPVC windows installed throughout the house by a supposed reputable company - they are one of the largest, servicing only the South East.
A month after they were fitted we were burgled which is unfortunate (if not a little suspicious) and found that the sash window that had been removed to gain entry, was held in with 4 measley screws (one on each side of the window) and nothing else! There is barely a scratch on the sash and no damage to it, indicating quite clearly that the unit had been removed very easily.
Two representatives from the window co. visited the house to look at the unit after I called them, and admitted straight away that the window had been fitted incorrectly. The company returned to fix locks to all windows at our request, but nothing was ever put in writing. In my mind, to come back and fit locks to windows immediately amounts to an admission of liability. There was also a report carried out on behalf of our insurance company which whilst I'm unsure of the exact detail of the report, the man carrying out the inspection was quite clear that the windows were shoddily installed.
Since then, I have contacted the company a number of times, because I want some level of compensation from them. What I would ideally like is to get my money back in full and pay someone decent to re-fit the lot, because I genuinely don't trust them, but that's unlikely. I have been genuinely ill over the situation which led to me being signed off work with stress and to boot, my insurance premium will be affected for at least the next three years because I have had to claim on the contents for the stolen items.
I recieved a final email from the co. today stating that they had been through my contract, and a letter had been sent out to me - that's it!
Where do you think I stand and should I continue pursuing them?
Please help!
Thanks

Sorry to hear of your burglary it must be a dreadful thing to experience.
You could try going to your local Trading Standards and see if they can see if your windows were fit for purpose.
I am suprised though, that your windows didn't have locks as standard.0 -
Your insurance shouldn't be affected, as long as you dont claim on the buildings element.
as above, contact trading standards. also try citizens advice. if they've not been fitted correctly, I would suggest the Company are responsible for the damage sustained, via their negligence, either in fitting, or the supply of poor windows.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
Did the police mention whether there had been any similar burglaries of this nature?
Sounds very convenient that the burglar was able to take this out with such ease.
Almost as if they knew.
Definate line of inquiry for the police i think. I wonder if there's a pattern emerging for burglaries on houses with newly fitted windows.0
