Phoning RAC/AA when broken down

Can anyone tell me if ringing any of the breakdown organisations on your mobile when you're broken down is free. I know the numbers are 0800 numbers but are they in fact free ?

You're correct about 0800 numbers only being free from a landline. They won't connect from a mobile phone, well not on O2 anyway. It is necessary to use an alternative 01*** number.
