Sat Nav question

Would it be better to wait to the new year to buy my first Sat Nav?
Why I am asking this question is, if I bought now would it be the 2008 map and if I waited to the new year would it be the 2009 maps; or doesn't it work like that?

Thanks

The 2009 edition maps won't be published on January 1st 2009. In much the same was as the 2009 Rupert The Bear annual won't, either.

There may be some good deals to be had price-wise in January, but I wouldn't hold off until then just to get a more up to date map.

That take me back "Rupert The Bear", used to love that when I was a boy, LOL.

Owning a Small car would a larger Sat Nav 4.3 cut visibility down to much or would I be better of with a smaller one. I'm thinking of Gamin 200 or Tom Tom One.

    Many thanks.

It doesn't work like that. The 2009 maps could be released any time in 2009. Tomtom seem to do it around June-September.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 200 in 2006 and as I bought it after December 1st I was eligible for a free upgrade the following spring.

If you go to https://www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk someone there will know exactly when the updates are available. I seem to remember that they only do major updates every couple of years anyway.

BTW, I've been very happy with the Nuvi 200. Instead of mounting it on the screen though I made a simple bracket so I could mount it on the dash. It's much easier to reach and see and doesn't block your view at all that way.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

It depends on how many times you are going to get lost before the new year!!!! I would get the biggest one, you can always put it further away.
  • Once you have one you will never go out without one. Much more useful than you can imagine.
