  • We got ours from E&L off the internet http://www.eandl.co.uk/wedding-insurance/ and went for the cheapest package - £26 - but they have a variety of options/cover and seem to be pretty comprehensive - I chose them through someone else recommending them on here.

In the current climate of businesses going bust here there and everywhere I'm really glad we've got ours, ours was ~£30 too.

  • We've been putting the deposit (£100+) on our credit card, that way if something happens to the company your covered via the credit card.

i think that it is because getting married and organising a wedding is such a stressful time anyway. It really does give you peace of mind, unlike say contents or car insurance. So even if you never claim on it, you still feel it was money well spent for that peace of mind. Plus you only buy it once!

about the credit card thing - presumably you wouldn't get the money back if, say (god forbid) a close relative was taken seriously ill and you decided to cancel the wedding? I guess that method is just for protection against a company going bust?

We got ours from M & S. I wasn't going to bother with it but then I thought twice and thought that it would be money well spent if something did go wrong.
  • Hello !

I have been searching for a good insurance to cover all of our wedding details. One thing I did not know is once you buy insurance, you are covered from that point. I guessed it only covered our wedding day.

I think whilst we have this credit crisis its a good idea to get wedding insurance as one of the suppliers I was going to use has now gone out of business

I have also found out some wedding insurance companies DO NOT cover wedding gifts live CASH or voucers.

As we have lived together for 5 years we already have everything for our house so have asked for vouchers

The only insurance I can find to cover this is www.bigdayinsurance.co.uk even M&S Insurance does not cover cash? i also tired john lewis insurance but they are three time more expensive than www.bigdayinsurance.co.uk

We, thats it for now. I will let you all know how the day goes.

    Merry Christmas:money:
  • Does anyone have any experience of how good any of these insurance companies are at paying out? Its all well and good them being cheap but I want to make sure that whoever we choose are willing to cough up if something goes wrong.

Like other people have said, we will be paying for most thigns on Credit Card so should be covered if, for example, a supplier goes under. However what if someone is ill or there is a family emergency? With the cost of weddings running into thousands, its worth insuring. You'd insure a car costing the same.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T
  • Hello - Me again.

Having posted my threas about wedding insurance, I have received a few emails asking me about my wedding insurance.

As I have said I used a company called Big Day Insurance after a friend had used them and said they are great. The web site is www.bigdayinsurance.co.uk once you pay online you are emailed your policy so you dont even have to waste paper !!! - all good to save the world.

Also some body asked abouy the cover using a credit card. I called my credit card and they said only NEW items up to 30 days a re covered. ???

I guess different credit card cover different things.

Also, somebody said about using E&L insurance. I checked there policy and they dont cover Money or vouchers.

www.bigdayinsurance.co.uk - have been great with me. I emailed them a question and they replyed with in a few hours.

For £27.50 I think I have covered everything - the wedding has so far cost be £15.868 pounds with more to buy so I think I'm doing the write thing.

    Bye and merry christmas:money:
