In a word - the answer sounds like "yes" - providing you meet certain criteria.

That is an intresting bit of reading.

Also they have told staff that they will only do 3 days a week, they also have said that no holidays can be used in December, there is no money to pay for the holidays.
I feel let down, myself and others all have done 20 years each roughly, we have gone in early, stayed till late, worked weekends, drove vans to exhibitions, all for what, nothing. I hope all employers are not like this :(

am i reading that wrong, or does it seem, although you are on reduced hours, they still have to pay you your normal full-time pay?

as for holidays, yes they can dictate when you have them, but it will mean, they may have to pay people for holiday entitlement that hasnt been used. if say your holiday year end is 31st December, and someone has saved 2weeks to have off over christmas/new year, then as the employer has said no holiday in december, it either means they have to take it now, or be owed it in money

However the fact they are saying they dont have enough money in the bank to pay holidays, to me, means the company has already gone tits up. They should have started the redundancy proceedure, way before they needed to go on short days. Is the company overstaffed, is your workload fairly seasonal, or do you really think, this a shortterm blip that will right itself come February? do you think your employers are stalling announcing redundancies, until they have the staff through christmas, so they dont feel so mean about it all?, or are they hoping father christmas is gonna bring them a nice big order, that will get the company rolling again?

If I turned around and said NO i am not willing to drop down to 3 days, do they have to make me redundant? (been there 20 years)

In the current climate, 3 days a week is better than nothing, which is what you might be left with if they made you redundant. There's nothing to stop you for looking for another full time job at the same time as looking for top up hours.
