Temp fix for damp/mould

I have just bought a flat for renting out and despite the full survey I paid for saying all was fine, small damp patches are appearing on one wall and a white powdery fur forming on them. I have tried removing all traces of the marks and repainting but they have come back within a few weeks.
As I need to get someone to rent the flat to cover the mortgage can anyone suggest a temporary fix for the problem - ie is there something I can paint on the wall to inhibit any growth for a few months? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
I think....

It is likely the plaster has become infected. Infected plaster will continue to produce white fur/spores.
The only real cure for this is to remove and replaster.

Painting over with anti fungul paint will only keep it at bay for a short while.

  • Yes as Robowen just said remove plaster , you will only be bringing in forward a bit as it will have to be done anyway , it will also stop the damp smell so may help to get a tenant .

Hmm I wonder why you have damp in the first place?

I bought a flat a few yrs ago which had all been redecortaed, I now know why..

The flat was top floor on a corner with a drain pipe on the outside of the bedroom wall.

When it rained the damp appeared, not good for an 18yr old pg lady.

The damp was really very very bad, the block had a care taker ( took care to make sure we were all ripped off) he told me it was the tumble drier casuing the black mold all over the bedroom, so off i trotted as he told me to, to spend £200 I didnt have on a dehumidifier... not joy, some months later I went above his head and got a builder out to find that the drain pipe was bloked with a large chuck of concrete and thats what was casuing the damp. All fixed all repairs done on the leaseholders insurance.

Funny thing tho... a friend of a friend now own the flat.. and the damp is back, me I am glad I am off out of it all!
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
