Brand New 'Rolex' for 19 quid

Options
OK I've been looking at this all night and can't figure out what he's up to.  I'm tempted to bid on it as it would make a cracker Christmas present for a friend who has always admired mine.

It's obviously a fake Rolex but how can he afford to sell a fake for £19 - surely it must cost more than that to buy it in Thailand or whatever and ship it to Scotland.  Just how much is a fake Rolex in Thailand?

He has a buying history - all football shirts - so this is his first sale.  And it's postal order or cheque only, no PayPal.

I'd be interested to hear what the panel have to say.

Yeah, I just went to check before heading off to bed and it's gone.  The page comes up as invalid.

So what was it? Some sort of email harvester?  Presumably he must have paid the listing fees so he'll be out of pocket for nothing.  I think if ebay pull it then they make some sort of statement to that effect on the item page.

And it's been removed from my 'watching' page.

Ah well, better keep saving for a new one.  Only £2,432.79 to go.

    The plot thickens ......

This guy is advertised as being in Kirkaldy in Scotland but this morning I get the following email after I replied to his request to be placed on a private bidders list for the watch:

    Hello there,

I am glad that you are interested in my watch. First of all I have to tell you that I am located in Thessaloniki, Greece and I'll ship the watch from here. The Rolex will arrive to your door in 6 days top.
The final price is 2,800.00 GBP ( shipping included ). This is not a replica rolex, it is 100% authentic Swiss Rolex...
For payment I'll like to use an eBay service, so we'll be both protected.
Please let me know your thoughts.

    Best Regards,
    Alynos Wood

I don't know what the scam is - possibly using ebay to present a legitimate front whilst he disappears with your money.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?
  • It's an obvious con - please stay away - When I sold my car on ebay I had a few of these e-mails from "buyers" offerring me good prices from abroad!!!!
Just bin the e-mail, or better still report the user name to ebay.

  • ???the reason it is no longer on Ebay is that they have a policy of not allowing you to sell any "fake", "hooky" "copied," call them what you will items. If ebay pick up on this they chuck your item off!
so if you are selling anything "copied" you need to be very carefull with your wording, generally if is not described as genuine , it aint, also if it comes with no papers or box it is usually a copy!
If you are desperate for a copy there are plenty sites out there.
