Hi all,
Does anyone have any idea what would cause an ammonia type smell to be eminating in a room of our house?
Background details ....
purchased house in april and noticed smell then ... but house had a lot of damp problems ... we put it down to that. damp problems sorted by specialist company ... but there may be small amount of water leaking in through the flat roof (waiting to replace) ..... there is also a chimney breast in this room but the chimney has been sealed at the top WITH NO VENTILATION!
any ideas?
Thanks

A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.

Urine can give out a strong smell of ammonia, so is there any possibilty that someone has had a leak somewhere they shouldn't have? Or perhaps the previous owners had a pet that had a particular place in the house where they left their mark.
Over-ripe Camembert or Brie can also smell of ammonia, so are there any old cheeses lurking around the place?
:rudolf: The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Not that i know of. The room is empty and the floor is bare so no dodgy smelling carpets, this was ripped up when we got the work done. He was an old man but i dont think he had any pets. A few people have were under the floor when the work got done and they didnt find any cheese :snow_laug :snow_grinA banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0

Wet roofing (chipboard) can have a horrendous smell once it starts to rot, also a lot of manufactured boards are glued together with Urea based adhesives, this could be doing it?The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0
