Smoking allowance in SOA ?

Options
Just had a thought:j

Has anybody been able to claim for a smoking allowance in their SOA expenditure. I think it would be a breach of human rights for the OR to ORDER you to stop smoking to save money.

PS I dont smoke myself. Tho everything you could claim for obviously helps towards going against an IPA.

No .. as it's not deemed an essential expense, you are allowed to smoke but you have to pay for it out of any surplus.

It wouldn't be a breach of human rights, no one is "ordering" you to give up.

  • Ummm interesting.....would it have to be absorbed into housekeeping....I mean eat less and pay for fags out of what you have allocated for your food?

Will all have our vices or "treats" and absorb the cost into something else.

Except me of course. I am a good girl and have no vices at all..................

  • Does the OR ask you to provide proof of what you spend your SOA on, I mean do they ask maybe not for food reciepts because that would be ridiculous.....mind you I would put nothing past a govt dept......I asking to see bills for things like the water gas elec mobiles rent all that sort of thing......we have 115 a month on oil.....this is a direct debit and cannot be altered or we would be left with no heating....I am guessing that when I post my soa you will all go no....u cant have it that high......but it is wot we HAVE to pay....the house has to be heated all year due to my Dad....ill health etc....if we didnt pay for that it would have to be a fan heater in his room and god knows what that would cost. Also it is not the most effcient boiler....we were considering putting in a aga/woodburner....2nd hand off ebay but we would have to pay for it maybe £600 but would recoup it back in savings within a year......would the OR be happy if we said we wanted to do that and let us buy it?
  • Just thought if we have credit with the oil people(we owe £600 prob) it is an ongoing DD like you would have with the leccy or gas.....they come and fill up and you just pay so much per month to cover your estimated oil charges for the year.....not sure if is in our name or father in laws....if in our name should that be included as a debt....if so then surely the oil people will refuse to supply usin future as they will have lost all the money....they are the cheapest so we would have to pay more which would mean a higher monthly charge and I don't know how oil works but we might not get an account from any other oil people

Can you pay the £600 off pre BR? If so, you wouldn't need to include them in your list of creditors

If you can't pay, then yes I guess you may have problems getting credit from them in the future. I guess they would want you to make payments in advance of receiving your oil?
  • Too late for that as BR 2 weeks ago.

The house is owned by father in law and each month we have to pay the rent plus the oil into that account for father in laws to pay the mortage he holds and the oil DD.

Have now found out oil bill is in joint names of father in law and OH....would it be acceptable to remove OH name from the bill and leave it in father in laws name only. I don't think they credit check u for oil because if they had credit checked us then we would never have got credit. I would not want to remove the name if this would be not allowed. Also if held in both names who is responsible for the debt are they equally liable and will go after his dad anyway if they are contacted by the OR or does it just form part of the BR end of story if it has to be included?
