I stumbled across this idea in the summer when I realised how many banana skins we threw out on a weekly basis - we eat lots and drink smoothies most days.

I started saving them and blitzing them in my blender with water then pouring them straight from the jug (unevenly) on our very sickly, weak, mossy, weedy, dog damaged lawn.

I also sling the smoothie leftovers stuck to the sides, topped up with water, on the lawn.

The improvement was quick and my lawn is now pretty enviable even if I do say so myself :D

I cut off the tough ends and snip them up a bit before I blitz them. Now I also slip a few whole skins under my new plants as I put them in the soil and my plants have never looked healthier.

Heres to greener lawns for you all :T

WOW! Glad 1 person found that useful!
  • will prob try that from about April and hopefully by summer will have a nice lawn for a change (mine gets patchy and the soil is quite dry at times).

Have you tried doing it with spud and carrot peelings too or any left oer fruit n veg or just bananas?

With all these composting and garden tips nothing ever get wasted (after OS cooking leftovers)

Theres no chance that I'd waste banana skins on our Lawn ;) I blitz them up like you do and then feed it to my worms- they just love it and within a couple of days it dissappears into their hungry mouths :):)

My worms live in the soil and pop up for their banana skin treat, airating the soil as they do so :p

You don't need to wait til April as the rain will wash it all down into the soil now plus the worms come up for them ;)

I haven't tried other peelings.... yet... but I think I will :money:

I thought banana skins had alot of nitrogen in them, which would make the grass put on alot of fresh new growth, which you dont want in the winter as the frost and wind will just damage it! Would be fine for the summer through
