Looking to change my car for a 2nd hand family car and looking for your views/advice on the choices I have narrowed it down to.

I want it to be about 3 years old, a diesel, I would like a leather interior and wouldn’t mind Sat Nav. Basicaly I like the bells & whistles!

So my list so far is:

Saab 9-3 1.9TiD saloon Vector Sport like this: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/SAAB+9-3/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-20-41-51-143-240-4294966871-4294967116/advert.action?R=200847323616781&distance=19&postcode=GU51+5NP&channel=CARS&make=SAAB&model=9-3&min_pr=&max_pr=6000&max_mileage=60000

VW Passat 2.0 TDi SE like this: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/VOLKSWAGEN+PASSAT/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-20-42-51-59-112-143-240-4294967158-4294967159/advert.action?R=200846323448181&distance=132&postcode=GU51+5NP&channel=CARS&make=VOLKSWAGEN&model=PASSAT&min_pr=&max_pr=6000&max_mileage=80000

Honda Accord 2.2 Saloon like this: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/HONDA+ACCORD/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-20-41-59-143-240-4294966758-4294967196/advert.action?R=200846323272621&distance=21&postcode=GU51+5NP&channel=CARS&make=HONDA&model=ACCORD&min_pr=&max_pr=6000&max_mileage=60000

Ford Mondeo 2.2 Titanium X like this: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/FORD+MONDEO/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-20-41-51-143-240-4294967084-4294967194/advert.action?R=200844322144561&distance=71&postcode=GU51+5NP&channel=CARS&make=FORD&model=MONDEO&min_pr=&max_pr=6000&max_mileage=60000

So what do you think?
Any other suggestions?

have you checked parkers guide online for car info?

    common faults etc etc.

I have a Honda, it's quite dull, but has everything and was quite cheap. The Saab is the only one I wouldn't have, although it looks great I know nothing about their reliability.

Some people here are also quite fond of the Skoda Octavia

Hmmm, the Saab is my favourite at the moment.

I've looked at the Octavia, but I just can't get my head around that badge......guess I am just a really sad car snob. Apologies to all you MSE Skoda owners, I promise no offence is intended.

Well the Saab is only a Vectra underneath!

Honda is probably the most reliable and the Mondeo the best 'drivers' car.

Good point wouldnt touch a Vectra with a barge pole, a new "suit" doesnt change the fact that it is monkey metal.

Mondeo or Accord out of that list.

Didn't realise that the Saab is a Vectra underneath

Like DKLS I wouldn't touch a Vectra, however that is mainly because it is such a ugly car with the most uninspiring interier I have ever seen!

    Still like the Saab though!

Just wondering why you are wanting a Diesel specifically?

With a 15p a litre gap (ASDA 90.9 Unleaded, 105.9 Diesel) you have to cover a lot of miles a year to recoup the outlay.

    I think i read 38,000 miles a year now.

If you need it for towing etc fair enough but economics goes to petrol at the moment I would say.

Plus diesels cost more to buy (you do also get more when you sell)

I want a diesel because I am sick to death of getting just 30 mpg out of my 2.0 petrol mondeo!!

As I am buying 2nd hand, there doesn't appear to be a real premium to pay for the diesel.

Yes diesel is more expensive, but then I should be able to average about 45mpg and by my reckoning that is a 50% saving
