Is there a way to take an internal hard drive out of a desktop and somehow link it to a laptop to access the files on it?

Yes. If you buy an external hard drive case/enclosure, you can plug it into the laptop and access it that way. You would need a 3.5" enclosure to fit a typical desktop hard drive.0

You could always connect the two machines via a network. It depends whether you're removing the drive from the PC permanently, ie. you just want the drive out of a dud PC, it's the main drive on the PC or a backup drive, or you want to share the data between the two machines, etc.0

Thanks all. Once I knew you could do this, I needed to do it quickly as I needed some files asap so I went to Maplin today and got a hard drive dock which was expensive and probably could have been got for half the price elsewhere but I didn't have the luxury of time.
Anyway, it was so simple to use and worked a treat and I now have the files I needed.
Just need to spend some time figuring out what made the original pc go kaput now. :rolleyes:Herman - MP for all!
