No music from PC

hi

my computer seems to able to play all the windows sounds but not music. it also cannot play the audio from a video. i have gone through the windows xp help system but unfortunately that did not help. if i play a song on Windows Media player, you can see that it plays but i do not hear any music. i have checked the connections and reinstalled the audio drivers.

please help!!

    Open Media Player, Tools, Options, File Types, Select All, Ok

    Now a Hardware Test, If you have a Microphone that would be handy.

    Start, Control Panel, Sounds Speech and Audio Devices, Sounds and Audio Devices
    Voice Tab, Test Hardware.

    Have you got the speakers in the correct slot/hole.
