Whether the cost is reasonable would depend on a number of factors including location in the UK, flueing requirements, if upsizing of gas supply was required, powerflush, fitting of a Boiler Buddy/Magnaclean and scale inhibitor, controls (eg. programmable rooms stat, TRVs), lagging (insulation) on HW pipework etc. This guide from the Energy Saving Trust details the specification and installation of gas boilers for Basic and Best Practice.

Thanks Canucklehead - have just checked the detailed breakdown of her work and the boiler was quoted at £2597.77 + VAT (by my caculation £3052 incl VAT ), the total before the discounts for warmfront and trade in is £3125.74 + VAT (£3672 incl VAT) - she actually paid £2972. (no additional installation work, no system powercleanse, no magnaclean professional-magnetic filter)0 -
I have just quoted £3600 to install a complete heating system including the Greenstar Junior, 4 radiators and a towel rail, am I too cheap??

Nope, in MSE terms you are a crook who charges at least 3 times too much!0 -
Have just been advised by a local Corgi registered gas fitter that he would charge in the region of £1400 - £1500 for the work carried out by British Gas - so I guess this is a case of BG charges being high.0

We just paid our local Corgi gas engineer £2320 for a complete new installation (6 rads and a towel warmer). The boiler he used is an Ideal somethingorother with a wireless thermostat. £3k for a replacement boiler alone seems rather expensive to me.0
