Hi All,
I am looking to close two bank accounts after consolidating all of our debt into one loan, which will save us a considerable amount of interest and free up money for things like a saving account.
I would like to close a Natwest current account and a HSBC account. I have only looked at the Natwest website and if you search for the term "closing an aco!!!!" the first and only relevent link returned is a "this page cannot be found" result.
Is it me or do banks make it difficult to close an account?
I would appreciate and information/suggestions as I plan on closing at least the Natwest account on Saturday all being well.
Thank you for your time.

Are the accounts you want to close in credit or overdrawn?0

I closed my RBS basic account not long ago. All I did was send a quick note with the account number saying I wanted to close the account and included the card cut up and sent it to the branch address on the statement. Few weeks later I got a letter saying it had been closed. Easy! :beer:0

They will both be put into credit and then closed if that makes sense
so planning on visiting Natwest on Saturday, paying the outstanding balance on the account and then doing what ever is then required to close the account.

HSBC has a few glitches on its website. I tried to transfer money to another account from my savings account and it said 'page cannot be displayed'. It's ok when I transfer from the Graduate Account.0

You can close an HSBC account either in branch, in writing by sending a letter to the branch, via secure e-message or (IIRC) via telephone banking.
NatWest are easy to close an account with; did it a few months ago, just walked into the branch, filled out a form at reception and it was done.0 -

It's just you. Walk into the branch and ask to close it, easy. Seems as though you're over thinking this a little bit. What would William Shatner do?0
