DDR PC2700 memory issue.

I have a 4 year old desktop PC with an MSI MS-6172 motherboard inside.
According to the manual. MSI website and Crucial, this board can support 3GB of PC2700 ram in its 3 slots.
However, I have come across an strange problem.
When I install 3 new identical sticks of DDR PC 2700 memory (all from same manufacturer), XP will continually crash, reboot, etc.
But, when I remove 1GB and replace it with and old 512MB stick, giving a total of 2.5GB all is well and XP is perfectly happy.
None of the new memory is faulty as it has been tested in other machines.
The problem also arises if I use a 1GB stick of Kingstone memory.
Any ideas ?

Up your VDIMM voltage in your BIOS0

Thanks for the reply, I will give that a try.
What should I change it to, I think it is set at 2.5v at the moment.0 -
Keep changes small and for each change, run memtest:

from a bootable CD until you're happy that it's stable and error free.0
