Oh by the way can I just add

I have like a boiler/heater for water in the cupboard. The switch is always on and i've noticed when im running the hot water its absolutely boiling..Almost as hot as boiling water.

Should the switch above this always be left on?

    Thanks.

There's your answer. No, it shouldn't always be left on. It should have a timer somewhere. Some people only have it on for a couple of hours over night.

And it shouldn't be near boiling.

Really?? So this could be the reason for such a high bill?

Well I don't see a timer/gadget stuck near it and you can hardly put your hand on it.

Sorry for my lack of terminology i'm only 21 and learning to move out!

We don't have a timer either, we just have to switch it on and off when we need it.
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

    **Update**

    Can someone help me please?

I've just read meter from my bill it was

    Customer reading (07/10/08): Night 96866 Day (07/10/08) 68867

    Actual (11/11/08) Night: 97680 Day: 69332

I've been away for 2 weeks completely turned everything off storage heater, tv etc etc.. nothing on

Just read it now 6pm: Low: 977701 Normal: 694463

Update: Read it 6 hours later (12pm) it now reads: Low: 977701 Normal: 694500

The only thing running since then has been like my energy saving lightbulb, the storage heater is back on and my laptop

    ________________________________________________________________

From previous posts I checked and I was on economy 7

Can anyone make sense of my readings?

What shall I do? This bill is due tommorow and I can't afford £130.11 for 1 month electricity for just a tiny studio! I thought £50-60 would have been more like it

Hoping someone can help out :)
Hi, it looks as if the readings you took at 6pm and 12 pm included the decimal point, because the readings you mentioned previously only had 5 digits.
That means that in those 6 hours you used zero night units (that is correct as your night rate had not started by 12 midnight) and 3.7 kwh of normal use. That is high if you only had lights on, but you mentioned the storage heater being on, this should only come on in the night rate and give out it's heat during the day. If you did actually have your storage heater riunning in that 6 hour period you are using high rate electricity and that would account for the 3.7kwh of uage.

I have just checked the boiler and turned it off since last night.

It looks as though the temperature was set to 180 degrees and this has constantly been on since I been here (approx 6 weeks)

So everyone is saying its no wonder your bill is £130.00 as water is constantly on at that temp!

God knows what i'm going to do though cause I can't afford to bill so may have to speak to NPower to see if they can come up with a payment plan
