Can I / Where's the best place to order wine online for delivery??

Hello all

Used to pop over to France with my mum every now & again to pick up some wine. She had some sort of loyalty card with Eurostar and got a trip for about £6 every few months. They've now stopped all that & the cheapest she says is much more (not sure how much), so it’s no longer worth our while.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a website that I can order wine & spirits (mostly would be for wine though) online - and obviously the cheaper the better! We went to France for the lower prices & special offers they have so I'm hoping I might be able to find someone offering something similar online? (Well, worth asking anyway!) I have looked at the Tesco France website but you can't order online there, only order to collect.

Any ideas & hidden gems appreciated!

Thanks :)

Virgin Wines are always worth a look. They often have good special offers and you can always get discount vouchers on the net. www.virginwines.com.

Laithwaites are also supposed to be quite good but not used them personally.

If you have or can get an Egg Money card, you get a great introductory offer and 20% off for subsequent purchases at Virgin Wines. Plus 1% cashback on everything you buy with the card.

Another way to get money off at Virgin Wines, Laithwaites, Sainsbury, John Lewis etc is if you order via quidco. Though that cashback isn't instant - you need to be prepared for a 2-3 month wait to see your money.

I have also seen one wine dealer who pays your ferry trip if you order your wine for pick up in France.......can't for the live of me now remember the name or URL, but perhaps somebody else can?

    Vinatis
    Waitrose
    Tesco

the tesco wine site has some real bargains during their wine festival - i know its twice a year and in spring and autumn but unfortunately can't remember which months. at the last one, i got 4 cases (6 bottles each) of good NZ sauvignon blanc and australian wolf blass & brown brothers for under £90. look out for their vouchers for £10 or £15 off purchases of over £100 in the tesco magazines
Not buying clothes for a year - it's liberating!

I've never had a bad bottle of wine from Laithwaites . On the other hand i've had a lot of very ordinary to poor wine from Virgin, all at varying price ranges.

Ultimately, I don't think you can beat the deals down at the supermarkets. Tesco usually have exactly the same wines constantly discounted - which can get a bit tiresome, but Sainsburys generally has some very good stuff on offer with changing brands.
  • If you order more than 300 pounds worth of stuff from Majestic then you get a free crossing.

They accept english pounds there and I'd reccomend using them as last time I used my credit card and the exchange rate the CC company (egg) used was less favourable than Majestic's UKP price.

They're really easy to find too. Just turn left off the first motorway roundabout and they're about a 2 minute drive from there.

I ordered wine for a party - my first wine order with Tesco. I thought I was getting a really good deal. Turns out it was a misprice (I found out from this site afterwards). The day before delivery, I went onto my account to check the delivery time, and they had cancelled it without telling me. No replacement, no explanation, nothing. When I phoned to see what was going on, I got a variety of lame excuses. They even sent a driver out to me with a "delivery notice", saying I had been charged 5 pounds for the privilege!(since refunded). Customer Services didn't want to know. There is a thread on here all about the Wines of the Loire "offer", if you want to read more.

I use their grocery delivery with no problem, but I will never use their wine warehouse, as I don't think they can be relied upon. I asked for an assurance that I would not be in this position again, but they couldn't give it. Tell your friends - I have.

virginwines and tesco have both been pretty reliable for me - depends what you're looking for. i think virgin is a little more expensive but you can buy 12 different types of wine, rather than tesco where you have to get a block of 6 or 12 of the same wine. i also used a £20 off voucher with virgin when i started which helped - i'm sure on the forums here there must be people who have one but don't want to use it - they get sent from places like figleaves quite a lot...

I can also recommend Laithwaites. I've also never had a bad bottle of wine from them. I normally go for the offers that they have at any given time. The deliveries are quick too.
