Hi
I have an old Ford Fiesta which has a problem with the fan not always working meaning the fan for the heater and the enginer stops working. It generally works when i start the car but sometimes when the fan is required it ust stops - meaning the engine starts to overheat.
I addition the heater sometimes only starts when i flick the front lights on. Ive been to a local garage a couple of times - they think they have fixed it but it hasnt worked as its intermittent
Any ideas?

faulty fan switch , fan motor partly siezed and about to die or the wiring is broken0

sounds like a wiring fault. intermittent faults are a pain, they can take ages to cure. the best bet would be to re wire the cooling fan. it should be fairly simple if its an old fiesta....work permit granted!0

If you suffer further problems before you get it fixed, turning the heater on full heat and the fan on full blast is a good way of removing heat from the engine.0

if you cant find a fix ( although it shouldnt be that hard) you could wire up a switch to manualy turn the fan on in traffic etc0
