wireless adaptor, and MBPS V cost

hi

im considering converting my deskptop to wireless, so that i can hook up my wii to it and play it online

my ISP is sky and im on their base package (the free one) and have one of their routers which they tell me will work if i buy a wireless adaptor

ive been looking and it seems my best bet is a USB adaptor, and they range from £10 to £50 depending on the MBPS there are 3 different types of adaptor, but i dont know which one i need

standard coverage upto 54Mbps
extended coverage upto 108Mbps
maximum coverage upto 300Mbps

i dont download loads of movies or music, just the odd one now and again thru limewire

any info or advise would be really appreciated

For internet access, any of these will easily provide enough bandwidth. You're internet connection will almost certainly be running at no more than 8Mbps, so that will be the bottleneck, not your wireless link.

It's more important to choose an adaptor that is compatible with the standard used by your wireless router. Check on the underside or packaging and it will refer to - for example - 802.11g. Then get an adaptor that uses the same standard.

If all 3 are compatible, only choose the more expensive ones if you need more speed within your home network (e.g. PC to PC file transfers) or you need extended range (e.g. if you want to surf from the garden!).

Your router is already wireless and so is your Wii so there's no need to buy anything if all you want to do is go online with the Wii, whether your desktop is wireless or not makes no difference.

i agree with geewhiz here.. if you have a sky router, and a wii, you should just be able to go through the wireless set up on the wii, on your tv screen, and it should find your network (normally a sticker on the bottom of the router will tell you your network name and security key!), type in your security key, and your wii should be online..

why change anything else... i have 4 wired devices into my sky router, and about 4 or 5 wireless ones throughout the house and everything runs smoothly...
