any ipod geniuses here ? think my one is dying ..

ok, i'll try and keep this concise. i have an 80gb ipod video. tried running a freeware ipod manager on it yesterday and it crashed and took the itunes database with it, so it showed up as zero songs. restored the backup but realised that a couple of things i had put on were still there, but lost.

so decided to restore and do a fresh load of all my stuff - that's where the problems started. first time i had the apple symbol and a black screen, and the backlight just kept flashing intermittently on and off.

put it in disk mode, restored again and tried uploading the songs and after about an hour, it had only uploaded 50 songs - it used to do all 6000 in about an hour.

put it in disk mode, did a manual re-format in windows - that took 8 hours.

tried uploading the stuff again and it uploaded most of it, but gave me an error on about 1000 songs - said it couldn't upload them.

restored again and tried syncing in itunes. it got to about 2300 songs and stopped with an error saying it couldn't write to the hard disk.

i'm now about to start burning 7 dvd's worth of music (27gb) as a backup because i really do think it's just died on it's !!!!.

does it sound like it's had it ? can't think of anything else to try really ..
