Pounds till Payday

Hi, I am new to these forums.

I have a problem. A few months ago I took out a loan from pounds till payday for £400 due to financial hardship.

They failed to set up the direct debit, which meant they did not take the money on my payday. I then told them that I could pay next month-they added fees, making a total of: around £580.

Last month-October-I agreed to pay them half and then half this month-if I didn't, they threatened to send a door collector who would charge even higher fees, and would no doubt be extremley embarrasing to my family. (Who are not aware that i have borrowed money form these people).

Now, last week, I was made redundant. I phoned them up to tell them this and to try to come to an arrangement.

They're having none of it. Either I pay the remainder, or they will send a door collector.

Can anyone help me please?

    Hi and welcome,
Have you tryed giving cccs a ring there s a link on here somewere with there phone number, Im sure that some noce person on here will post it for you.

If you speek to them thay will be able to help you.
Im sure others will be posting soon with there advice there are some great people who come on here that know some great stuff a lot more than i do,
All the best and good luck
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j
  • Yep i second that get in touch with CCCS or Payplan ASAP. Let em send a doorstep collector but don't be conned by them they have no powers to enter your house whatsoever they are NOT Baliffs and have no rights or powers above that of an Avon Rep precisley NONE.
You can confidently tell em to bog off and shut the door on them equally you can be polite but don't agree to anything.
Look up Baliffs and Doorstep collectors on the forum for loads of info.
Chances are they are playing on your lack of knowledge on the subject to frighten you into making a payment typical of the lowlife tactics these people use. They in all probability won't follow through with their threat and even if they do as i say theres nowt more they can do on your doorstep than they do on the phone. Try not to worry and get some sound advice from CCCS or Payplan. Don't use a fee paying company to help you with your debt problem there is no need both the ones mentioned are free and can advise and offer solutions from Payment Plans to IVA's to Advise on Bankruptcy they will evaluate your circumstances and advise the best solution for you.
Just as an aside since we ran into difficulties i have had numerous emails from Loans till Payday etc fortunatley i have not been that desperate that i needed to even consider them but where do they get their info? How do they know? and furthermore they can't really expect to offer money to those in financial hardship and expect it to run smoothly can they? As far as i'm concerned they get all they deserve the bottom feeding pond dwellers.
  • My concern is that if I'm not in, then someone else, may open the door, and the debt collector will probably say that "I'm a debt collector looking for Mr James Harvey"

I may not even be in. Then everyone will find out that I have borrowed from these people.

It is a confidential matter, and one, which I don't want other members of the household to find out.
  • o.k is there no other way to pay them off - nothing you can sell ,another credit card you can utilise etc? can you borrow money from family members at all?
I would definitely get in touch with the free debt organisations.

    Hi

I have a Pounds till Payday loan I am not in a position to repay. I got a hundred telephone calls, including to my work and even after I'd spoken to them, actually my parents (you know, the number you have to give just in case you skip the country...) which really annoyed me.

Long story short, I emailed them to advise them to remove my work and parents telephone numbers from their database. I also explained that I was taking advise from CCCS regarding my finances and that whilst I absolutely hated being in this position, could offer them no plan for repayment at this time. I've since had an email back acknowledging my original email but insisting that I telephone them. After hiding from all my debts for so long, I AM going to call them, but it won't make any difference whatsoever, I can't afford to pay them back and it's all the same whether I tell them that by email or phone! I'd take a deep breath and contact them, tell them you're struggling and taking advice regarding your debts. As I think someone already said, chances are that they won't appear on your doorstep, but I totally understand how worrying it is. I have to say, it might be worth trying to speak to someone different next time, as whilst they badgered me initially, they are being pretty reasonable and at least sounding sincere about helping me at the moment....

Have they threatened you with a doorstep collector?

I can't take even the smallest chance that a door collector will turn up. I don't have anything to pay them with. All credit cards are used up. I have an appointment with CCCS , but that is not till 26th November.

I wish they would hold my account, for a few months, until I find new work, or come to a reasonable plan.

I'm very scared, as if my parents find out, then it will be extremley embarrasing, and not worth the hassle.

    Hi James

No, they did not mention debt collectors at all. I simply said I was not in a position to repay at the moment, I was completely distraught about being in this situation, I was in contact with CCCS and I would be back in touch with them again once I had something to offer (which will now actually be low start DMP payments). I appear to have a 'case worker' as it's the same woman who contacts me each time. Also, they have stopped calling me at work and/or calling my mother, so they've obviously taken on board my instructions. In some respects, I think it's a lot to do with how you come across so them - I expressed sincere regret at not being able to repay, but was very definite and confident when instructing them on the action I expected them to take about removing information from their database, and it worked...... so far! Don't get me wrong, I was a bag of nerves, but I did it!

I know it's easy to say don't worry about someone calling at the door, debt collectors should never say who they are unless they know for a fact that they're speaking to the right person......

  • Payday loan companies are scum. They really are. They prey on desperate people. This site has a few alternatives to payday loans and ways to make extra cash. Looks like it's still under contruction but some of the money saving tips are quite good. http://paydayloantrap.synthasite.com/

We have had an influx of these problems on here lately. Do you think they actually fail to set up direct debits on purpose so people end up in this viscious circle and they get more and more fees added on.

  • They definitely do - on mine I didn't ask for a payment extension but they sent me an email saying my request for an extension had been approved - which meant that my loan was over an extra month and they charged me an extra £100! It took a few long phone calls to get them to drop the extra charge.

These people are scum - I thought they were really helping me at the time but They're crippling me every month now.
