MMR 14: The Claytons

I thought this thread was about MMR, anyway I watched it and it was up to it's usual ground level standard, last in the series too. I wonder how Martin knows about all the cheaper alternatives to the tablets in the medicine cupboard.

I thought it was common knowledge that there were generic medicines available at a much reduced cost. I always 'check the labels' and only buy branded kids medicines when I know that my little fusspot will only take a certain brand. When you have a sick child, it's easier to pay a bit more than to fight and spill most of it before you get it down their throat
Luckily, my kids are hardly ever ill.
I thought today's family were a nice family too. When Martin said she was the budgetter, he was the spender, I thought, hmmm, I wish Mr TM was watching this (we're the same) However, £10k pa on food and drink  Get yourselves over to the Old Style board, we'll have you eating like kings for next to nothing in no time
Eagerly awaiting the next series, Martin (yes, I've already emailed ITV

Well you could always keep old kids medicine bottles, wash them out when empty and put a cheaper version inside. If the kids still see their favourite medicine bottle, they may not even notice the difference in taste

Or put the dose into one of those little plastic cups that come in bottles of Night Nurse etc. Tell the child that it is much easier to take that way, rather than off a spoon.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Unfortunately, my DS2 has a keen sense of small and taste so knows if you're giving him something he doesn't like. He only needs it about once a year so it's not breaking the bank here

i couldnt believe the £10,000 on shopping!! I worked out at £30 a day (figure in the show) thats £7.50 EACH - EACH DAY.
My food budget for a WEEK is only £12.50 for me thanks to the OS board! :rotfl:
Would be great to get the families on here and to help them out cutting back even more! they seemed a really nice family.0 -
Hey Martin

Thanks Edinburgh lass, I did read your board today, before reading Your post above.
I have been too engrossed in the MMR boards and have been letting the other ones slip abit......ahh well they only got me for 40 calls, so it cost me 40p extra so not to bad a loss.....
With BT, my calls this month would have been just over £12 but with 18866 cost me just £3.27 so I have still saved a fair bit.
I sent their Customer Services a short e-mail letting them know i was going elsewhere maybe everyone out there in MSE land should do the same coz if 18866 do it and get away with it, their sister company 1899 will go to 4p as well....

We do it with an old Matey bubble bath bottle, the kids don't know we fill it up from a Tesco economy bubble bath at 25p a bottle.
When I have mates over they tend to hit on my single malts (at £22 - £28 a bottle)a fair bit so I now keep a couple of old bottles and fill them up from a tesco value bottle at £6.00, They have no idea so they are happy and they can drink as much as they want, so I'm happy.
I wonder how many pub landlords do this...... :beer:Chocolate is the solution to all life's problems. Life happens, also coffee helps.0 -
Have just watched the video of this show.
I didn't understand!!!! - where am I going wrong?
At the beginning of the show the family's overspend was £1500 a month. My maths makes this £18k a year.
At the end of the show they had saved....ummm....memory failing me now but in the region of £13k a year.
Still a deficit of £5k??????
