Can't view a webpage , why?

Hi , any help would be appreciated . I normally go on the webpage of a local band to have a look at gig guide , message board etc. Last week they had a problem with the message board and nobody could view it although the webpage could still be viewed . My problem is i cannot view anything , IE just comes up page cannot be viewed . I have tried all pcs in the house and i get the same message. I dont have any other problems viewing anything else. Many thanks .

I would recommend taking the following steps:
    1) Double check you can still access other websites (if you haven't already)
    2) Check if other people can currently access the message board from other locations
    3) Clear your temporary internet files (Tools>General>Browsing History>Delete>Delete files...)
    4) Download a different browser (e.g. Firefox) and try with that
  • Hi , the webpage can be viewed but not by me . I have now downloaded Firefox and tried again with that but i still cant view the page i want. By the way is Firefox quicker than IE , it seems like lightning compared to it . Thanks for that. Any other ideas how i can view the page i want?

it's a long shot, but in the absence of any other explanation ... is there anyone around who might not want you to be viewing this site?

only asking because there's trick you can do to block access to any site you want from a particular pc, without installing any 'net-nanny' type software, it redirects you to the 'page cannot be viewed' screen

I confess I did it to my daughter a few years ago when she was obsessed with ebay

Thanks for that Swan that gave me a laugh , i'll blame the kids for that . They could do anything to the computer and i wouldn't have a clue. Have a look see if you can get on its https://www.thememes.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

    Hmmm....

Go to your start menu, choose run, then in the box type 'cmd'. It should open a black window called the command prompt. Type 'ping www.themes.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk' (no quote marks) and press enter.

It should say 'Pinging www.themes.php.blueyonder.co.uk [194.117.143.87] with 32 bytes of data:', followed by three lines confirming there has been a response and some other data.

If you could report back on the result, it may help.

ok.. let me try something, what i'm going to quote below, is how to change your DNS settings...
what DNS is, is the server your computer contacts when getting on the internet, to get the exact location of the website you want... ok... here goes..

Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network.
Right Click the icon and select Properties,
When the window pops up, scroll down the list, and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
    Click the Properties Button..

Now, the "obtain DNS server address automatically" is selected probably..
well, click the option below, "use the following DNS Server addresses"

and put in the following into the 2 lines

    4 . 2 . 2 . 1

    4 . 2 . 2 . 2

now, obviously, you're not putting in the dots, as windows has these all in seperate parts, all you need is basically to put one number in each part, on each line.. exactly like above..

now, click ok... apply, ok... and launch internet explorer... fingers crossed, it will pick up your home page... which means you're still on the internet..

now, try going to your webpage again and let us know how you get on..

ooh.. i forgot to add, i'm assuming you're connecting either via a wired connection to a router, or a wireless connection... now if it is a dial up / broaband on a modem where you have to connect, the above might not make sense
  • Hi Marky , I got as far as putting the numbers in clicked ok but there was no apply to click . Anyway launched IE typed in the address and still nothing . Strange?
